I’ve debated this change for a while, and I’ve heard varying things about why I should or shouldn’t use Disqus commenting on my website.

A lot of the times, from the suggestions and negatives I read. Is that WordPress commenting is simple. That’s entirely true as it’s simple, a standard function, and isn’t a burden on load time.

That being said, Disqus is still “ok” in load time, cuts back on constant spam from bots, and has enough login options that it doesn’t burden the user by being able to sign up and leaving a comment using an obscure account.

Sure, you can still register and create a Disqus account, but the fact you’re able to use social media to leave a comment is a plus with myself right off the bat.

Is there value in Simplicity?

When it comes to leaving comments, there certainly is. Pushing the user to easily sign up and leave comments is always the end all be all. However, simplicity on my end is met with pages upon pages of comment spam, even with the proper security measures applied.

That simplicity to me can also be a hindrance as well. I’d prefer the comments to look real, feel real, and I’ll always push for people to use real accounts to tie everything together. I’ve always been a huge fan of Social Media, so if someone were to leave a comment using their registered profile? I’d love it even more.

 Disqus gives you options.

When put to the test out of the box, Disqus provides more in comparison to WordPress that you would normally need with plugins. Receiving notifications directly once a comment is applied/replied is fantastic.

Another thing, is that if you create a Disqus account, it gives you the ability to keep track of all of your comments within a dashboard on a range of sites you’ve started a discussion on.
